Before Christmas, rue de Bretagne will be reduced from two lanes to one for cars. This will enable the creation of a contra-flow cycle path on the north side of the street (opposite the Marché des Enfants-Rouges).
This development, which will run from rue de Turenne to rue des Archives – i.e. around the corner from the town hall – will be two meters wide. It will cost 300,000 euros. It will also result in the loss of 17 paid parking spaces.
« Three new Davioud double-seated benches will be added to the three already present, » says Le Parisien, which adds: « While local residents are generally in favor of the new arrangements, shopkeepers seem more circumspect. » As elsewhere in Paris, some people fear that the narrowing of the traffic flow will lead to traffic jams.
